Printmakers, painters and a jewelry-maker are among the artists chosen for the 2024 season of the Community Supported Art (CSA) program, presented by the Bowling Green Arts Council (BGAC).
Ann Beck and Yuemin Xin will be joined by Catherine Clements, Jax Foster, Jackie Meier and Roux Wells-Jensen in providing original art to CSA shareholders over the summer.
Community Supported Agriculture has become a popular way for consumers to buy seasonal food directly from local farms. With the same buy local spirit in mind, this CSA will support local art, artists and collectors.
Beck is known for both jewelry and larger scale works. She incorporates symbols, colors and elements from the places where she has lived and traveled, focusing on design and the use of rich, dynamic colors.
Clements collects photos, short poems and prose, and archived digital content that evoke personal memories and experiences. She translates that source material into her art through printmaking, bookbinding and papermaking.
Foster has experimented with numerous mediums in exploring the arts including ceramics, wood burning and watercolors before settling into oil painting. They use every piece to explore new ideas through the inspiration of plants, food, animals and popular culture.
After a career as a graphic designer and art director, Meier has found the way back to her original love of mixed media painting. Her work represents her desire to create harmony out of chaos, to make the unseen, seen and the unheard, heard.
Wells-Jensen is a Bowling Green State University graduate working in a variety of mediums, including oil painting and printmaking. He uses his art to explore the beauty in marginalized identities, rather than just the suffering.
Born in Inner Mongolia, China, Xin specializes in the “Freehand Mountain Water ” and “Freehand Flower Bird” techniques of traditional Chinese ink and water painting. Since coming to the United States, she has been an active member of the arts community by teaching Chinese art, participating in multiple juried shows, and mural work in Toledo.
As in 2023, 25 shares will be available for purchase by the general public. The art will be distributed at two evening events where shareholders will enjoy local entertainers and have the opportunity to interact with the artists. The goals of the CSA program are to support artists and to create an engaged community of local arts supporters. CSA supports artists in the creation of new work, in establishing relationships with local collectors and patrons, with the chance to participate in the launch of an exciting new model of art support and distribution. CSA share member benefits include multiple works of art from local emerging and mid-career artists, the opportunity to develop relationships with the local artists and the art community, discovering new artists, and exploring a variety of disciplines represented in our arts community.
The BGAC is a volunteer organization working with local artists, arts organizations, and arts supporters to provide inspiration, enjoyment, and learning opportunities in the Bowling Green community.
