Safe Communities joins global remembrance of victims of roadway crashes

From SAFE COMMUNITIES OF WOOD COUNTY

Safe Communities of Wood County is extending its commemoration of World Day of Remembrance through Thanksgiving.

World Day of Remembrance (WDR) is a global event to remember the many millions who have been killed or seriously injured on the world’s roadways and to acknowledge all those who have been affected.

During the last 12 months, 22 people have lost their lives on Wood County roadways. Any life lost is one too many and each one of these lives lost is more than a statistic, it’s a person who had a name, family members, friends and loved ones just like you.

The lives lost impact families, their friends and the community, with millions added each year to countless millions already suffering: a truly tremendous cumulative toll.

This day is an important tool for traffic safety advocates and all those whose work involves crash prevention or response to the aftermath of traffic crashes. It offers the opportunity to demonstrate the enormous scale and impact roadway deaths and injuries have on all of us, reminding us to make good choices behind the wheel.

On WDR we too pay tribute to the dedicated first responders and medical professionals, who deal with the traumatic aftermath of crashes on a daily basis.

Roadway safety remains a shared responsibility. Working together, we can reduce the number of fatal and injury crashes that occur not only on Wood County roadways, but across Ohio and the nation.
