The Wood County Emergency Management Agency has issued the following advisory:
Conditions appear to have slightly improved for this afternoon’s forecasted severe weather. All of Wood County is now in the “Slight” risk (2 of 5) with the previously forecasted “Enhanced” risk (3 of 5) moved south of the county line. This is a slight downgrade in risk which is a positive for our area.
While the chance of severity for the county has decreased, we are still in the Slight Risk. These storms are capable of producing isolated and intense severe weather.
Showers are expected to continue until 10a-noon when a lull in activity is anticipated. Showers and thunderstorms are then expected to redevelop during the afternoon, at which time they may be strong to severe. The most likely chances of activity are currently forecasted between 3pm-7pm. During the strongest activity, large hail, strong winds, and isolated tornadoes are all possible.
For the areas to the south of us, it has been noted that there is an increased chance of possible tornadoes (EF2 –EF5), hail 2” or greater, and winds of 74 mph or greater. Keep in mind that this means they believe the atmospheric conditions are right to support the creation of these hazards, that said, it would not take much of a shift north for them to impact us.
The time frame continues to include school dismissals and evening commute. Prior to traveling, we recommend checking local weather conditions and having a plan should a severe thunderstorm or tornado warning be issued.
We are encouraging everyone to take the following steps to make sure you are prepared:
Have multiple ways to get emergency notifications (CodeRED Wood County’s Emergency Notification System, NOAA Weather Radio, phone apps, and local media).

Have flashlights with working batteries should the power go out.
Charge your devices throughout the day and take them off do not disturb or vibrate.
Have a designated and accessible location to seek shelter should the need arise.
Secure any loose outdoor items.
With the potential for high winds, tree damage as well as utility disruption can be expected and should be prepared for.
