Bowling Green Police responded to a resident who reported that she had been scammed out of $1,400 on Thursday (June 18). The 45-year-old resident said she received a call saying she had missed jury duty that morning, and she could keep the matter from becoming a criminal offense if she withdrew the money and went to a Bitcoin machine to deposit it.
The woman said she offered to go to the Bowling Green Police Station to handle the issue, but was reportedly told she would immediately be arrested if she did so.
To avoid a criminal offense, the woman followed the scammer’s request and made the Bitcoin deposit.
Bowling Green Police checked on the exchange, and found the funds to not be recoverable.
