In its latest numbers, Bowling Green State University is reporting 25 new cases of COVID-19 in the week ending Oct. 20.
This includes one faculty member, two staff members, and 22 students.
Last week the university reported 19 cases, all students.
This brings the total reported cases to 508, including two faculty members and 10 staff members.
There are 18 active cases, one more than last week.
Three residential students who have tested positive are in isolation on campus and six who were exposed to the virus are quarantined in campus housing.
The university conducted 159 random surveillance tests, and detected one positive case, a 0.63 positivity rate. Also, 576 tests were done on targeted populations with no positives detected.
This brings the number of tests of asymptomatic individuals to 2,221 with 27 positives, a 1.2 percent positivity rate.
While the numbers on campus are steady, Chief Health Officer Ben Batey in his weekly update cautioned that a spike of cases is being seen statewide and in Northwest Ohio. Students need to vigilant so campus does not see a spike as the semester winds down and students get ready to go home.
Batey also urged students to get flu shots. The university will be offering them to students toward the end of next week in the student union. But, he said, they don’t have to wait. Shots are available at the Falcon Health Center as well as at other locations in the community.
This is important so students don’t exhibit flu-like symptoms that would keep them off campus or in their rooms.
