Bowling Green State University has seen 61 new positive COVID-19 cases in the past week, Ben Batey, the chief health officer reported tonight (Sept. 16). The majority of cases are in students living off campus, he said in his weekly COVID-19 update.
None of the cases have been among faculty or staff.
This was about the same number of new cases as was seen as week. Batey said that consistency is encouraging though he’d like to see the number go down.
Holding the line on new cases could be difficult as colder weather sets in, he said. “As we move through the fall semester, we expect more people will start to congregate indoors as the weather changes. It is important we remain diligent about wearing face coverings and keeping social circles small.”
These cases reflect the testing of students showing symptoms. According to the university’s dashboard 502 tests have been done on those not showing symptoms since March. That’s the same number as was reported last week.
The university has said it expects to increase the amout of random surveillance testing.
As of this week five residential students are isolated because they have COVID-19, that’s four more than last week, and another 10 are being quarantined in residence halls, one more than last week.
