County records 103 more COVID cases since Thursday

Wood County is now up to 11,055 confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 since March, according to the Monday, Feb. 8, update from the Wood County Health Department. That is 103 more cases than on Thursday.

The number of doses of the COVID vaccine being given in Wood County as of today is 12,389 – which is 9.47% of the county’s population.

The number of active COVID cases in the county today is 157, which is 41 fewer than on Thursday. Active cases are Wood County residents who are being monitored by the health department according to state and federal isolation criteria.

A total of 542 local residents have been hospitalized for the coronavirus since March, with four more being hospitalized since Thursday. 

The county has recorded a total of 161 deaths from COVID, with one more death since Thursday. Of those, one was in his 30s, two were in their 40s, five were in their 50s, 17 were in their 60s, 34 in their 70s, 62 in their 80s, and 39 in their 90s, and one in her 100s. 

Of the total 11,055 cases in the county as of today, those with the virus ranged in age from 1 to 103, with the median age of 39. Of those testing positive, 5,766 were female, and 5,289 were male. 

Cases involving BGSU students and staff who live in surrounding counties and commute are included in BGSU figures, but not Wood County’s total count.

Every Thursday, the Wood County Health Department lists “active cases” by ZIP codes. As of last week, there were 16 areas in the county with active cases.

The Perrysburg ZIP code area again had the most last week, with 66-70 active cases. Next was Bowling Green, with 61-65 active cases.

Northwood was the next highest with 21-25 active cases, followed by North Baltimore with 11-15, and Walbridge with 6-10 active cases. 

Areas with 1-5 cases each included Bloomdale, Cygnet, Fostoria, Grand Rapids, Haskins, Luckey, Pemberville, Rossford, Rudolph, West Millgrove and Weston.

The latest numbers reported for schools (week of Jan. 25) in the county included 43 students and 16 staff: 

  • Bowling Green City Schools: 2 students, 4 staff.
  • Eastwood: 1 student, 0 staff.
  • Elmwood: 2 students, 1 staff.
  • Lake: 1 student, 1 staff.
  • Northwood: 8 students, 0 staff.
  • Penta Career Center: 2 students, 1 staff.
  • Perrysburg: 19 students, 6 staff.
  • Rossford: 4 students, 0 staff.
  • Westside Montessori, Perrysburg, 1 student, 0 staff.
  • Wood County ESC: 3 students, 3 staff.

Of the total COVID cases in Wood County, at least 860 have been in long-term care facilities – 448 were residents and 412 were staff. Those numbers from long-term care facilities are updated every Thursday.

According to the Ohio Department of Health, at least 103 of Wood County’s deaths from COVID-19 have occurred in long-term care facilities.
