Covid update from Horizon Youth Theatre

SUBMITTED BY HORIZON YOUTH THEATRE

When the HYT Board met in June to discuss plans for the summer, there were about 400 new cases of COVID-19 in Ohio each day. Over the last three weeks, there have been more than a thousand new cases daily. The threat level has been increased for Wood County, and the Wood County Commissioners have recommended that everyone take steps to reduce group gatherings of any size.

In keeping with our commitment to student safety, Horizon Youth Theatre is cancelling this year’s Cabaret. While we discussed the possibility of scaling down the event, we feel it would be irresponsible to place our students and their families at risk unnecessarily. Other local organizations, including the Bowling Green Chamber of Commerce, have likewise cancelled large events in the name of public health. We agree that a cautious approach now will benefit the entire community in the long run.

The Board did not make this decision lightly. We were looking forward to a chance to celebrate the outstanding contributions of our eight graduating seniors, and presenting their student-written play for the first time. When conditions change for the better, we still intend to honor these incredible young adults, and present their work for all to see. While the pandemic has delayed our efforts to publicly thank them, nothing can diminish the joy they have brought us. Their talents will continue to motivate young people in this community to pursue their own artistic passions for years to come.

Later this week, we will be posting details of two online Summer Workshops that will be offered in the coming weeks, as well as online audition information for our two fall shows. As always, thank you for your support and for your trust in us.
