Dennis Walston to demonstrate available light photography at Historical Center

Wood County Museum

From WOOD COUNTY HISTORICAL MUSEUM

Local and nationally recognized photographer, Dennis Walston, will present a Demonstration Day on available light portrait photography at the Wood County Historical Museum on Saturday, July 27 from 1 PM – 4 PM. The Historical Museum is located at 13660 County Home Road in Bowling Green and both the event and museum offer free admission on that day.

Walston will share images -many of which were submitted for national judging- that he has created at the Museum and around the grounds starting in that late 1970s. Walston will talk about these images and what judges look for in competition entries. With a subject, he will show how to select spots for available light captures. Participants will move to different areas, both inside the Museum and out on the grounds. Walston will explain how and why these areas are chosen.

Dennis Walston is a graduate of Eastwood High School. He attended The New York Institute of Photography and continued his photo education at Bowling Green State University and The Winona School. Mr. Walston was president of the Photographers in Northwest Ohio, and the Professional Photographers of Ohio. He received his Photographic Craftsman degree and holds a Master of Photography degree. Walston has judged and lectured at state, regional, and national conventions and many of his national prints were taken at the Museum. Recently, a photograph that Walston took in 1969 of Neil Armstrong during a parade in Wapakoneta, Ohio, was selected to be on a new plaque being dedicated at the Armstrong Air & Space Museum in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission. Walston calls the photograph “a shot of a lifetime.”

Participants muse register in advance at 419-352-0967 or museum@woodcountyhistory.org and bring their own camera. Walston will be on hand to answer any questions during the program and demonstrations. The event is free, but space is limited. As you move through the Museum, please be respectful and mindful of the historic artifacts and displays

The Northwestern Ohio Tractor Pulling Association is the proud sponsor the 2019 Demonstration Days. The Museum will be open from 1-4 PM Saturday with free admission as part of the Demonstration Days festivities. All events detailed at woodcountyhistory.org or by following the Wood County Historical Museum on social media.
