Doyt ‘D. L.’ Perry

Doyt “D.L.” Perry, of Columbus, Ohio, died Thursday, March, 12, 2020 at the Cleveland Clinic, where he had been undergoing treatment for heart related issues. He was 69. 

He was born January 15, 1951 in Columbus, Ohio to Doyt L. and Loretta (Zeroll) Perry. He grew up in Bowling Green, Ohio and attended Bowling Green Senior High where he was elected President of his Class and excelled in sports including football and basketball. He graduated from Bowling Green State University in 1973, with a degree in mathematics/computer science, having obtained the highest distinction of summa cum laude. He then completed his graduate studies; obtaining both his M.S. degree and Ph.D. in computer science from The Ohio State University with honors. 

He enjoyed a very successful career in both the business sector and higher education. At the time of his death he was an Associate Professor for Informatics at Muskingum University after previous teaching assignments at the University of Tennessee and The Ohio State University. He retired following a very successful sixteen-year career with Bell Laboratories/Lucent Technologies prior to returning to academia. He considered his proudest achievement having had the good fortune to play an instrumental role in the development and lives of hundreds of his former students. 

Surviving are his beloved daughter Maria V. Perry, together with daughter, Devon Perry and son, Blair Perry. Also surviving are his brother, David (Debbie) Perry of Atlanta, Georgia; cousin Jay Richard (Karen) Jackson, of Kansas City; brother-in-law, William Mauerman; nieces, Mindy (Shaun) Sabol and Marcy (Ty) Mahone; and nephew Tom (Becky) McClain all of the Madison, Wisconsin area. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Judy McClain Mauerman. 

A memorial service will be announced at a future date. The family suggests memorial donations be made to the Doyt and Loretta Perry Scholarship Fund at Bowling Green State University. Arrangements have been entrusted to Dunn Funeral Home in Bowling Green.
