The organizers of Firefly Nights Festival series has announced the events not happen this year.
In the series Facebook page, the team announced: “It is with deep sadness to announce the cancellation of The 2020 Firefly Nights Festival series.”
The notice adds: “As difficult as this decision has been, we remain positive and we look forward to an even bigger 2021!”
The reason cited was protecting those who support the festival.
This would have been the third year for the festivals that were launched to promote downtown business. The series included an opening walk/run in May, three summer festivals on the third Fridays of June, July, and August, and then a fall festival in October, which has also served as the downtown trick-or-treat.
The series has persisted despite weather problems during a couple nights the first year, and then the need to relocate two of the events because of downtown construction.
On Facebook the organizers urged people to continue to support local businesses. “In the meantime, let’s continue to support our town! Like or share a social media post, make an online purchase, pre-pay for a future service, order take out and enjoy a picnic on your lawn! Together we will be stronger.”
