George P Hamilton

George P. (Mike) Hamilton, 87, of Bowling Green, Ohio passed away at home on March 3, 2024, with his wife, Linda, at his side. He had a severe heart condition most of his life and finally succumbed to congestive heart failure.

He was born on December 4, 1936, in Columbus, OH to Dr. Lester A. Hamilton and Helen B. (Hershey) Hamilton.

George was raised in Athens, OH. He graduated from Athens High School in 1955. He was president of his graduating class and was co-captain of the varsity football team.

After graduation he attended Miami University prior to entering the Army in 1956 where he served with the 11th Airborne Division in Germany.

After returning from the Army, George attended Ohio University and graduated in 1962 with a degree in mechanical engineering. He held engineering positions with the General Tire and Rubber Co. in Akron, OH and Boston, MA and Anchor Hocking Glass Company in Lancaster, OH.

It was while working at Anchor Hocking that he met his wife to be, Linda L. Spinks. They were married in Lancaster, OH on February 26, 1972, and she survives him.

In 1972, he began working at Campbell Soup Company in Napoleon, OH. He retired from Campbell’s in 1995.

George loved woodworking and used his abilities up until he could no longer see clearly and hold the tools firmly. He helped many neighbors and friends with various projects. He was also a “misplaced” cowboy. He loved the west, Idaho in particular, where he went each year to help his rancher friend herd the cattle, ride horses and absorb the western lifestyle.

George is predeceased by his parents, sister, Jane Nowicki, and brother, David Hamilton. He has three nephews who survive him: Matthew Nowicki, Lake Elsinore, CA; James R. Hamilton, Sanford, NC; and Mark Hamilton, East Bend, NC.

Linda would like to thank the staff of Bridge Home Health & Hospice of Findlay, OH, especially Alli and Brianna for their daily visits and Lori for presenting the “We Honor Veterans” program while George was alive to receive it. A special thanks goes to our friend and neighbor, Gaylyn Finn, who was very close to George and helped him especially during these final days.
