Habitat for Humanity gathers Wayne community to bless blitz build

Habitat for Humanity wall raising in 2021

Habitat for Humanity of Wood County hosted a project blessing ceremony in Wayne to celebrate the Home Builders Blitz Build 2021. In April, Habitat broke ground on two new homes to be built for two Wood County families.

The 2021 Blitz Build is made possible with support from Ridge Stone Builders, Lakeside Interior Contractors and many other sponsors.

During the ceremony both builders shared their excitement for working with Habitat and wished the families well. Matt Homier from Lakeside Interior Contractors said, “We have the skilled labor, we have the heart and we are proud to be a part of the mission.”

Brian Gruber from Ridge Stone Builders spoke directly to the homeowners, “as we build this hopefully it can change your life and there can be great things ahead.”

Habitat and the families received a warm welcome to Wayne from the Village Mayor, Craig Everitt. Both families thanked sponsors, volunteers, and staff for the support of building their homes.

David Pearce stated, “I just wanted to say thank you for making this dream of ours come true, you made an impossible dream possible.”

To conclude the program Jay Meents from Oak Bend Church, gave a blessing prayer.

The families along with supporters raised an exterior wall on the 223 Railroad St. home, signifying the hand off of this home from Habitat to the builders. Habitat volunteers will continue to work on the 215 Railroad Street Home.

Habitat anticipates that both homes will be completed by the end of July.
