Habitat for Humanity recognizes volunteers for their work

Habitat for Humanity of Wood County hosted their annual Mission Night and Volunteer Recognition Celebration event on Jan. 18 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Bowling Green.

The Mission Night Celebration is held to renew Habitat’s mission to bring people together to build affordable homes, communities and hope and recognizes the many people who volunteered with Habitat of Wood County during 2023. There were awards presented to eight people for their significant contributions of time and talent in moving the mission forward. Awards included the Golden Hammer and Volunteers of the Year.

Cindy Fuller was awarded The Golden Hammer, Habitat of Wood County’s highest honor. This honor goes to an individual who has demonstrated a long-term commitment to Habitat for Humanity of Wood County, has dedicated themselves to tirelessly supporting the mission of providing decent, affordable housing in Wood County communities, and who has left an indelible mark on the families that are served. Cindy serves as secretary of the Habitat Executive Committee and chairs the Homeowner Selection Committee.

Justin Bytnar received the Habitat for Humanity of Wood County’s Operations Volunteer of the Year award from Executive Director Mark Ohashi.

Operations Volunteer of the Year was awarded to Justin Bytnar, Chairman of the Habitat Site Selection committee, for his dedication to finding buildable land and advocating for Habitat in the community. 

Construction Volunteers of the Year were awarded to Steve Roach and Jeff Christen for their overwhelming support of the 2023 builds in Wayne and Grand Rapids. 

Development Volunteers of the Year were awarded to the members of the 2023 Gala Committee: Chairman, Rachel Barnett; Hallie Nagel, Lois Bowlus and Theresa Drown for their instrumental work in creating, executing, and presenting the “Hard Hats & High Heels Gala” which was the highest grossing fundraiser in the history of and for the benefit of Habitat for Humanity of Wood County.
