HYT Presents “Lilly’s Purple Plastic Purse”

Submitted by HORIZON YOUTH THEATRE

Horizon Youth Theatre is proud to present Lilly’s Purple Plastic Purse, based on three familiar children’s books by Kevin Henkes: Chester’s Way; Julius, Baby of the World; and Lilly’s Purple Plastic Purse (adapted by Kevin Kling). The play is directed by Keith Guion and will be performed November 11th and 12th at 7:00 pm and November 13th at 2:00 pm at Eastwood High School, 4900 Sugar Ridge Road, Pemberville. Tickets are $8 for students and seniors and $10 for adults, and are available at the HYT website or at the door. HYT’s 2022 – 2023 season is sponsored by The Wood County Museum.

Lilly, the creative and energetic young mouse of Kevin Henkes’ stories, has a life full of adventure, fun, and occasionally, frustration. Like many mice – ahem, children – Lilly encounters new friends as well as troublesome bullies; has her world upended when a sibling is born; and experiences a captivating teacher who becomes a nemesis when her exuberance causes him to confiscate her precious purple plastic purse, a gift from her grandmother on a special day out. Lilly learns and grows, and her relatable trials and victories are humorous, poignant, and adorable.

The play features 20 young actors aged 6 to 12 from several area schools including Bowling Green. The production team: Keith Guion, director; Alice Walters, stage manager; Jonah Truman, lights; Charlie Vostal, sound; Wendy Guion and Fox Roberts-Zibbel, props; Claire Nelson and Ginger Windom, dream team; Thomas Edge and Stephanie Truman, producers.
