HYT presents live stream of Rudyard Kipling’s JUST SO STORIES

Submitted by Elizabeth Roberts-Zibbel for HORIZON YOUTH THEATRE

Horizon Youth Theatre is proud to present our second streaming production, Rudyard Kipling’s Just So Stories, adapted and directed by Keith Guion, November 13 and 14 at 7:00 pm and November 15 at 2:00 pm LIVE online. Generous support has been provided by the Ohio Arts Council, the Black Swamp Players, Wood County Museum, Wood County Park District, and BG Independent News.

From the director: “Ever since things began back with the world was so new-and-all, we have been curious about the world around us. We ask questions about how things came to be and we seek answers. In the early times we didn’t have resources like Google to find our answers, so we speculated, and mythology and folklore arose. Rudyard Kipling asked some questions… how did the camel get his hump? Why do cats behave like they do? Where did the elephant’s trunk come from? Kipling’s tales have delighted us for over a century.”

The play features 15 students ages 6 – 12 from many area schools including Bowling Green. The rest of the production team: Mikayla Trimpey, Stage Manager; Bob Walters, Technical Director; Lynette Cooley, Costumer; Wendy Guion, Props; Rose Walters, Stage Crew Chief; Patrick Drummond, Streaming Coordinator; Shawn Douglass, Producer. Stage Crew is Whitney Bechstein, Violet Grossman, Katie Magnan, and Drew Thomas.

Tickets can be purchased on the website for $5.00.(https://horizonyouththeatre.org/2020/09/fall-2020-just-so-stories-performances/).

When this script was first proposed, there was no pandemic. As with And A Child Shall Lead, production of the play had to be reconfigured. Live streaming is a bit strange of a format for theatre, and limits the connection between players and audience, but it also offers an opportunity for a new audience to participate who might otherwise be unable to attend. The storytellers don’t need to be in the same room with you for you to enjoy the stories. Thank you for taking part in the adventure!
