J. Loraine Welker, 97, of Bowling Green, formerly of Five Point Road, Perrysburg, OH died on May 4, 2017 in Bowling Green. Loraine, daughter of Paul H. Gilman and Daisy Loraine Gilman was born February 3, 1920 in Petersburg, MI. She was valedictorian of the Class of 1938 at Petersburg High School. Loraine attended Davis Business College and worked for The Jewel Tea Company prior to her marriage.
On September 27, 1940 Loraine married Robert H. Welker in Petersburg, MI. They were married 51 years. Robert and Loraine’s brother, Norman, and Grandson Ryan Welker preceded her in death. She is survived by daughters: Donna J. Graber, (Ron), Bowling Green, Norma L. Strayer (Fred), Waterville, Audrey R. Gorsuch (Earl), Bowling Green, and son, Wendell H. Welker, (Renee), Perrysburg, 11 Grandchildren, 15 Great Grandchildren, and 1 Great Great Grandchild. Her sister Lois Layman survives.
Loraine devoted her life to her husband and children. She will be remembered fondly for all the family dinners she hosted, her love for her grandchildren, and the joy she found in playing games and crocheting. Loraine and Bob traveled throughout the United States and enjoyed their time together in Haines City, FL. Loraine is a longtime member of First United Methodist Church, Waterville, where she served as a circle leader and cooked many dinners for the Rotary Club.
Peinert-Dunn Funeral Home, 7220 Dutch Road, Waterville, OH is making the arrangements. Visitation will be Monday, May 8 from 10-12 noon. The funeral service will follow at 12 o’clock noon with burial at Highland Memory Gardens, 8308 S. River Road, Waterville, OH. A luncheon will be held at Bethel Assembly of God, 665 W. Indiana Ave., Perrysburg, OH after the burial. Memorials may be made in Loraine’s honor to Waterville United Methodist Church; Bethel Assembly Of God/Strayer AK Mission; or to the Boy Scouts of America, Waterville Troop 101.
