Joseph Sohajda Jr., better known as “Joe” age 89, of Bowling Green and formerly of Pemberville, OH passed away on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at the Bowling Green Manor, Bowling Green, OH. He was born on March 13, 1929 in Bradner, OH to Joseph and Elizabeth (Haydu) Sohajda Sr. He married Dolores Kinker on October 15, 1949 in Luckey, OH and together he and Dolores have raised 2 children and celebrated nearly 69 years of marriage. In addition to working for CSX Railroad for more than 40 years, Joe, also formerly owned Cyclone Oil Refinery in Pemberville during the 60’s and the Portage Motel in Woodville. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and was a member of the Pemberville Freedom Township American Legion Post #183. Joe was noted as an avid antique collector but most remembered by his family as a very hard worker, having built two of the family homes himself that they lived in.
In addition to his wife Dolores, Joe is survived by his daughter: Susan (Rick) Marlowe and son: James Sohajda both of Woodville, OH, grandsons: Eric (Molly) Rippke of MI, Andrew (Jessica) Rippke of Perrysburg, and 3 step grandchildren. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, step mother, Emerencia Sohajda, brother Gregory Richards and step sister Margaret Anderson.
Funeral Services will be 12:00 p.m., Monday, July 2, 2018 at the Marsh & Marsteller Funeral Home, 110 W. Main Street, Luckey, OH. There will be a time of visitation from 10 a.m. until time of service. Officiating will be Rev. James Budke. Interment will be in the Troy Township Cemetery, Luckey, OH. Memorials may take the form of contributions to the: Pemberville Freedom American Legion Post #183 (Baseball Team) or a charity of the donor’s choice.
