Gene & Rita Klotz retiring; Klotz Floral set to close after sale of property

Klotz Floral Design & Garden, a 103-year-old Bowling Green business, will close on June 26.

The owners, Gene and Rita Klotz, announced the news this morning (May 13) in an interview with host Clint Corpe on The Morning Show.

They explained that they have decided to step aside because the business is too much to run at their age. “We’re both in our 70s and it’s time to think about some other things,” Gene Klotz told Corpe.

The interview can be viewed on The Morning Show Facebook page.

Corpe reported that the business at 906 E. Napoleon Road and related property has been purchased by Bob Mauer, who does not have any plans for its use at this point.

Gene Klotz said the business is slated to close.

The decision was “bittersweet,” Rita Klotz said. “We’ve made a lot of good friends, loyal customers, that’s what we’re going to miss. That’s the hardest part.”

The couple plans to continue living in town, remaining active in the community. They look forward to being able to explore parks, both locally and farther afield.
