Library event looks at Caldecott & Newberry book awards

CHICAGO – The American Library Association (ALA) today announced the top books, digital media, video, and audiobooks for children and young adults – including the Caldecott, Coretta Scott King, Newbery and Printz awards – at its LibLearnX: The Library Learning Experience, taking place virtually from Chicago. 

Two awards the Wood County District Public Library discussed in their Virtual Mock Caldecott this past weekend were the Caldecott Medal and the Newbery Medal. The Randolph Caldecott Medal for the most distinguished American picture book for children winner is “Watercress,” illustrated by Jason Chin. The book was written by Andrea Wang and published by Neal Porter Books, Holiday House. The John Newbery Medal for the most outstanding contribution to children’s literature winner is “The Last Cuentista,” written by Donna Barba Higuera. The book is published by Levine Querido.
