New York driver dies in crash on Ohio Turnpike in Perrysburg Township

One driver was killed in a two-vehicle crash on the Ohio Turnpike just after midnight in Perrysburg Township.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol reports that the crash occurred Wednesday, Dec. 14, at 12:54 a.m.,  when Evgeny Zolotarev, 61 of  Brooklyn, New York, was driving a 2017 Ford Sprinter van westbound on the Ohio Turnpike near mile post 67.7.

Zolotarev drove off the right side of the roadway and struck a commercial tractor trailer parked in an emergency pull off.  Zolotarev was wearing a safety belt, but was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The commercial tractor trailer, occupied by Anvar N. Almsov, 49 of Toledo Ohio, had pulled off the interstate with engine trouble. Almsov  was not injured in the crash.

The Swanton Highway Patrol Post continues to investigate the crash and alcohol does not appear to be a factor. The Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by Lake Township Fire and EMS, the Lucas County Coroner’s Office, Bubba’s Towing, and Ohio Turnpike Maintenance.
