Novel Night to raise funds for Wood County library

On July 18, 2019, the Wood County District Public Library (WCDPL) Foundation will host Novel Night at the library.  This event replaces the former evening at Schedel.

Funds raised will go to purchase new books.  These books are used by our neighbors to learn a new skill, help teach a child to read, or simply read for pleasure. Every dollar given for this event goes to purchase new books, large print books, audiobooks, e-books, e-audiobooks, and picture books.

Despite many saying that the Internet and e-books will replace libraries, the core function of the library of serving as the “People’s University” remains vital.  In 2018, the number of cardholders grew another 5%.  Borrowing of books and other materials set a new all-time record for WCDPL in 2018 too!

This rate of high usage requires continuing investment.  State funding for libraries remains below pre-Great Recession levels.  Also, the 2010 levy (renewed with no increase in 2014) remains at a set level.  Meanwhile, costs have increased over the past 10 years.

Therefore, the importance of private fundraising in order for the library to “do more” and to meet demand is important.  Libraries work best as public-private partnerships.  Your financial gifts to the library make a difference!  We are asking for your support of this effort by:

1. Providing a monetary sponsorship in any amount from $20 to $20,000 (or more).  Simply send a check payable to WCDPL Foundation (with “Novel Night sponsorship” in the memo line) to A.J. Heilman, WCDPL, 251 N. Main, Bowling Green, OH 43402.

2. Plan to attend the July 18 Benefit to partake in the fun and excitement of live and silent auctions.  Tickets are $100 each ($75 is tax-deductible) and are on sale at the Check-Out Desk now.  Tickets are limited, so buy yours soon! We hope to see you July 18th at the library!  Doors open at 5:00pm.

Please give – or give again – so that the library can remain “the place to be” for the community to learn, discover, explore, and read.
