Peggy J. Gangwer, 93, of Bowling Green, died Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at Wood County Hospital. Born on April 24, 1923 in Maple Grove, Ohio to James and Sara (Hersh) Hoffman, she married Robert R. Gangwer on August 9, 1947 in Fremont; and he preceded her in death on January 17, 1957.
Peggy became a single mother at a time when women didn’t drive, let alone work outside the home. She worked as a cook at various eateries and also at Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity and Alpha Phi sorority at B.G.S.U., and later at Wood Lane Residential Services until her retirement. Peggy loved the Cleveland Indians and watching college basketball games. She loved family times together, especially attending her grandchildren’s sporting events. She also enjoyed cooking and baking; often surprising family members with their favorite foods.
Preceding Peggy in death were her husband; parents; sister, Jeanne and brother, Jack. She is survived by her children: Jack (Diane) Gangwer, Bradner; Roberta (Mike) Leslie, Bowling Green; and Jim (Jaye) Gangwer, Pemberville; seven grandchildren: Robert F. Gangwer, Christopher (Stacey) Gangwer, Michael P. Leslie, Elizabeth (Steve) Snyder, Jesse Gangwer, Kerri Gangwer, and Jimmi Gangwer. She is also survived by five great grandchildren: Mason, Elliott, Carsyn, Bowen, and Gaige.
There will be no visitation. A memorial service in will be held on Friday, November 18, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Christ’s Church, 14455 Campbell Hill Road, Bowling Green with a luncheon to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wood County Hospital or Bowling Green Manor. The family extends their gratitude to them for the excellent care Peggy received.
