Piano & percussion quartet to perform at St. Tim’s in Perrysburg

From St. TIMOTHY”S EPISCOPAL CHURCH

St. Tim’s Discovers, a classical music series presented for the community by St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church, is pleased to present the icarus Quartet this Sunday. Drawing their name from the mythological figure Icarus, who dared to fly too high, the ground-breaking icarus Quartet pursues soaring harmonies and pulsating rhythmic energy to new heights of artistry.

The concert is being held Sunday, Nov. 24 at 3 p.m. in St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church,at 871 East Boundary St. Perrysburg. The concert is presented free of charge; however, donations are kindly accepted.

Founded as a student ensemble by four former Yale University classmates – Jeff Stern, Matt Keown percussion and Larry Weng, Yevgeny Yontov, piano – the icarus Quartet is now touring the country and thrilling audiences from coast to coast.

The Quartet will present selections including commissions by the members and one arrangement by percussionist Keown. The icarus Quartet is equally comfortable in classical and contemporary genres.  Several of their performances are available on Youtube and may provide an enlightening preview of Sunday’s recital. The artists will perform on two Steinway grand pianos and a multiplicity of mallet percussion instruments, creating an original and thoroughly delightful presentation.

In addition to their active touring schedule, the Quartet is passionate about education and engaging young musicians. They have presented clinics for students from Pre-K through college.

St. Tim’s Discovers shares this interest in encouraging young musicians by including local young artists on the Series.  Entitled the “Emerging Artist Preludes”, this Sunday’s concert will feature Perrysburg High School student Caleb Neidt, performing a marimba solo prior to the icarus Quartet. Performing Raindance by Alex Gomez, Caleb, the son of Lisa and Tod Neidt, is a student of Drew Parent, faculty member at Tiffin University.  Caleb’s performance will be at 2:50, just prior to the icarus Quartet at 3:00 pm.

In honor of our guest artists, there will be a reception immediately following Sunday’s performance.  St. Tim’s Discovers is a multi-event music series provided for the communities of Wood County and across the northwest Ohio region.
