Rachel Phipps seeking Third Ward seat on City Council

Rachel Phipps has filed paperwork and will seek election as a Democrat to Bowling Green City Council as a representative of the Third Ward.

Phipps grew up in Bryan, Ohio, and has been a resident of Bowling Green for nearly seven years. She and her husband, Ryan, a dentist at Doctors Phipps, Levin, and Hebeka and a lifelong resident of Bowling Green, live in the Third Ward with their children, Georgia (4) and Arnie (1).

In announcing her candidacy, Phipps said, “I have very young kids and I think a lot about the role models in their lives. As they grow, I want them to see individuals who lead with integrity and passion, and are eager to listen, eager to learn, and eager to find common ground with their colleagues and opponents. That is the kind of council member I will strive to be.”

Phipps received a bachelor’s degree from Miami University in 2004 and a law degree from the University of Toledo College of Law in 2007. She also completed Capital University Law School’s graduate tax law program, receiving an LL.M. in 2011.

Phipps started her legal career at the Ohio Attorney General’s Office in Columbus, where she served three attorneys general as a lawyer in the environmental enforcement section. She moved to Bowling Green in 2012 to assume the role of assistant dean for communications at the University of Toledo College of Law. She is now a freelance writer, attorney, and stay-at-home parent. She recently served on Bowling Green’s 2018 Charter Review Committee.

Phipps said she is looking forward to connecting with and learning from her Third Ward neighbors as she campaigns. “I feel lucky to live in Bowling Green, and the chance to serve this community on city council is simply too good to pass up.”
