Russell Chapman 

Russell W. Chapman (“Chappie”), age 97 joined the love of his life, on Sunday, May 1, 2016. Russell passed with the knowledge his time on this earth was well spent and his dedication to the support and care of his spouse was fulfilled and completed. Russell was born April 17, 1919 to Ova M. and Bessie (Ping) Chapman in Clark County, Illionos. On September 1, 1946 he married Wanda C. Mason and to this union was born two children, Linda C. (Spitler) of Bowling Green, OH and Wayne M. Chapman of Palm Harbor, FL. Along with grandsons Andrew (Amanda) Spitler, Nathaniel (Jennifer) Spitler, Nicholas (fiancé Christa Braknis) Spitler, Daniel Chapman and great-grandson, Bradley Spitler. Russell graduated from Robinson High School, Robison, Ill. After attending Business College in Terre Haute, IN. he took employment with Ohio Oil Co. (now Marathon Oil Co.). Employment was interrupted while serving four years, four months in the U.S. Army 3rd Armored Regiment, nicknamed the Spearhead. He was awarded a bronze star for participation in the Battle of the Bulge. In 1960, Russell and Wanda moved to Findlay, OH. Where he continued at Marathon until retiring on February 1, 1984 after 46 years of service. Russell and Wanda enjoyed many years of retirement in Findlay and Homosassa, Florida, perfecting their golf and bridge skills. On April 17, 2009, Russell accomplished every golfer’s dream of scoring his age (90) and continued the feat many times thereafter. He was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, American Legion, Elks, Sycamore Springs Golf Club and Sugarmill Woods Golf & Country Club, Homosassa Springs, FL. Graveside services will be held at a later date in Robinson, Illinois. Contributions may be given to Bridge Home Health and Hospice or to St. Mark’s United Methodist Church.
