With conflicting state and city rulings on fireworks, BG BOOM organizers look to make a clear statement to remind the public about how these rulings impact the operations of the BG Boom Festival and Fireworks.
Organizers are asking that no outside pyrotechnics be brought anywhere on the grounds of the July 3 event, including the parking lots.
Wood County Sheriff Mark Wasylyshyn and Bowling Green Fire Chief Moorman were consulted to create the strategic plan for this event.
Because the Wood County Fairgrounds are in Plain Township, under the jurisdiction of Wood County, Wasylyshyn confirmed that the law states that you require permission of the property owner to set off fireworks on their property. No permission will be given to anyone attending the BG BOOM Festival and Fireworks to bring any type of pyrotechnics onto the property, including smoke bombs, sparklers and the like.
When asked about the viewing areas from outside the fairgrounds property, Moorman referred to the statement released from the City that reminds individuals that Ordinance 93.40 supersedes the state law. This Ordinance bans the sale and discharge of fireworks and can be read in full at tinyurl.com/3sfsxcaf.
“The safety of our residents and the prevention of fire is our top priority,” Moorman said. “Fireworks can be very dangerous and should be left to the professionals.”
Due to the number of people expected to attend, the organizers ask for the cooperation of the public to keep this event safe. The intent of this event is to bring the community together and enjoy the festival and fireworks.
