Strike up the bands! Community bands ready to start rehearsing again

Thom Headley conducts the Bowling Green Area Community Band before the fireworks displaying 2016 on the BGSU campus.

The Bowling Green Area Community Band is ready to toot their own horns again.

The band’s executive vote recently decided to resume activities after the extended pandemic layoff..

Weekly rehearsals will resume in the BG High School Band Room on Mondays, starting

March 7 at 7:15  p.m. for the  Concert Band followed at 9 p.m. by a 45-minute rehearsal for the BiG Band BG

Rehearsals will continue on Mondays through May 9, with the exception of March 21, when no rehearsal will be held because schools are on spring break.

In the announcement to members, conductor Thomas Headley noted: “We are in different places now, two years after the pandemic began.  For BGACB to start “rebuilding,” we really need to know who will be with us.  This is our first important goal:  please return your intentions by joint email to three directors c/o thomasrheadley@gmail.comwlake@bgsu.educatplewis@gmail.com

He continued: “Our road to musical recovery will be marked by the JOY of being together again!  We plan to be measured and careful in rejuvenating both our music-making and organizational efforts.  Think of it like riding a bicycle after years off.  Soon enough, our individual and collective ‘muscle memory’ will kick-in and we’ll be ‘up and rolling.’”

When band will start performing is still uncertain.

In the note, Headley did ask members to reserve Sunday, May 15, at 4 p.m.  for a possible concert in the BG Performing Arts Center. Also summer outdoor concerts may be possible, though dates are not yet set.
