Tech services at BGSU warns of phishing scam

On Monday (Nov. 7), BGSU Information Security received multiple reports of a text message phishing scam by someone impersonating BGSU President Rodney Rogers. The message originates from a 417 area code.

The university emphasized that the message is not legitimate. “Do not respond to the message or answer any related calls.”

An example of the scam message is:

Hello

What’s your availability at the moment?, I’m so tied up in an impromptu meeting right now, I would have preferred to call you but phone call is not allowed during the meeting and I need you to run an urgent task for me. Let me know if you can do this for me.

Best Regards,

Rodney K. Rogers, Ph.D.

President
