Toledo Museum presents Great Art Escape

The Toledo Museum of Art celebrates the winter holidays during its annual Great Art Escape, running Friday, Dec. 27 through Sunday, Dec. 29. 

The family-friendly event offers winter-themed art activities, flashlight tours in the Green Building, and glassblowing demonstrations in the Glass Pavilion.

Live music performances will feature: 

  • Saxophonist Mike Williams, Friday, 4-6 p.m. Libbey Court and Gallery 1.
  • The Bowling Green State University Collegiate Chorale, Saturday, 1-2:30 p.m., Great Gallery.
  • Greater Toledo International Youth Orchestra, Sunday, noon to 1:30 p.m. Great Gallery.

Programming highlights include:

  • Drawing sessions led by instructors in the inspirational TMA galleries.
  • Exclusive docent-led flashlight tours of the museum after dark.
  • Winter-themed art projects for all ages in the Family Center.
  • Storytime in the galleries, hosted by TMA librarians.
  • Whimsical glassblowing demonstrations inspired by favorite childhood stories.
  • A quiet, sensory-friendly area with fidget toys, comfortable seating, ear plugs, noise-cancelling headphones, and weighted lap pads.
  • Continuous showings of “Frozen” (Friday) and “Frozen 2” in the Little Theater.
  • Additional activities, such as cookie decorating date-night sip-and-paint sessions, scavenger hunts, sock skating, and superhero tours. 

Visitors can also explore TMA’s current exhibitions, such as:

  • “Strategic Interplay: African Art and Imagery in Black and White”
  • “Bernadine Rais: Souvenirs”
  • “Opulent Echoes: Artistic Journeys in the 16th and 17th Centuries”
  • “From Asia to the World: Ancient to Contemporary Art”
