Toledo Opera casting small roles & chorus singers for upcoming season

Toledo Opera is holding auditions for small roles and chorus positions for the 2023-24 season. The 2023-24 season will feature: Rossini’s Cinderella (August – October 2023 commitment), Gounod’s Romeo & Juliet (November 2023 – February 2024 commitment), and the Broadway musical Ragtime (February – April 2024 commitment),.

Auditions will be held Friday, June 2 and Saturday, June 3. Auditions will be held at Toledo Opera Offices, 425 Jefferson Ave., Suite 601. Toledo Opera is seeking the following singers:

Cinderella by Gioachino Rossini

October 6 & 8, 2023
Valentine Theatre
Twenty (20) lower voices: tenor, baritone, bass. Music rehearsals begin on August 6 and run weekly on Sundays. Staging rehearsals will begin September 18 and typically run Monday through Friday in the evenings and on Saturdays and Sundays in the afternoons/evenings. 

Romeo & Juliet by Charles Gounod

February 16 & 18, 2024
Valentine Theatre
In addition to the forty (40) member chorus (SATB), Toledo Opera is seeking performers for the following supporting roles: Stefano, (mezzo soprano, Romeo’s page, aged 20-30); Duke of Verona (bass, aged 40-60 years); Benvoglio (tenor, Romeo’s cousin, aged 20-30); and Paris(baritone, suitor of Juliet and rival of Romeo, aged 20-30). Music rehearsals begin on November 12 and run weekly on Sundays. Staging rehearsals will begin on January 27 and typically run Monday through Friday in the evenings and on Saturdays and Sundays in the afternoons/evenings.

April 19 & 21, 2024

In addition to the forty (40) member chorus (SATB), Toledo Opera is seeking performers for the following supporting roles: Emma Goldman (mezzo soprano, Russian-born social activist, aged 40 years); Edgar (unchanged young male voice, aged 8-10); Booker T. Washington (baritone, black male, aged 50 years); Henry Ford (tenor, white industrialist, aged 45 years); JP Morgan (baritone, robust white investment banker, aged 70 years); Grandfather (white male spoken role, aged 60-70 years); Tateh’s Daughter (soprano, Latvian, aged 8-10 years); Sarah’s Friend (mezzo soprano, black female belting/gospel style, aged 20-40 years); and Willie Conklin (tenor, bigoted Irish fireman, aged 20-40 years). Music rehearsals will begin February 25 and run weekly on Sundays. Staging rehearsals will begin on April 10 27 and typically run Monday through Friday in the evenings and on Saturdays and Sundays in the afternoons/evenings.
