Unclaimed funding available from state for liquor permit holders

From OHIO DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE

The Ohio Department of Commerce is urging all on-premises liquor permit holders to verify eligibility and apply for financial assistance at businesshelp.ohio.govby Wednesday, Dec. 30.

The state set aside a total of $38.7 million in federal CARES Act funding to support businesses that have an active on-premises liquor permit. Eligible businesses include bars, restaurants, private clubs, movie theaters and sports and concert venues.

Currently, the holders of approximately 5,200 eligible liquor permits haven’t requested funding. Every eligible permit holder will receive $2,500 per unique business location. Businesses will need to provide their liquor permit number and federal tax identification number to claim the funding at businesshelp.ohio.gov

“Roughly one-third of all eligible businesses haven’t taken advantage of this opportunity, and currently there is a least one eligible permit holder in almost every county that hasn’t applied,” said Director of Commerce Sherry Maxfield. “This funding is non-competitive and does not need to be repaid. With the deadline only a few days away, we encourage our permit holders not to wait any longer.”
