Wood County Prosecutor’s Office to announce winners of safety calendar contest

From OFFICE OF WOOD COUNTY PROSECUTOR PAUL DOBSON

Wood County Prosecuting Attorney Paul Dobson announced that this Saturday, Oct. 24, at 9 a.m., the Wood County Prosecutor’s Office will announce the winners of the 2027 Safety Kids Calendar contest. For over 25 years, the prosecutor’s office has been hosting the contest and calendars, paid for out of funds forfeited from criminal conduct. The event will be held on the fifth floor of the Wood County Courthouse.

Entries were accepted from 5th-8th graders in any of Wood County public or private schools. Entries could also be made by Wood County home-schoolers of the same age and grade. The entries were based on one of six safety-awareness and confidence-building themes.

The calendar contains 12 winners, displayed on each month of the year, as well as 12 honorable mentions displayed inside the calendar. The grand prize winner’s artwork will be exhibited on the cover of the calendar as well as a month. Monthly winners will receive a $25 gift card from Dobson and the grand prize winner will receive a $50 gift card. The artwork in the calendar is chosen by the vote of employees of the prosecutor’s office as well as visitors. This year’s winners and honorable mentions were chosen from more than 400 entries.

“This is one of my very favorite events of the year,” Dobson stated. “The artwork is the highest quality and kids and families really enjoy the celebration. Many of their art teachers come as well. The most important thing is that these kids are demonstrating their understanding of some very important concepts that can keep them and their friends safe and healthy.
