From TOLEDO ALLIANCE FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS
Vocalist and trombonist Aubrey Logan from Postmodern Jukebox will perform with the Toledo Symphony Orchestra on Saturday, March 21, 8 p.m. at the Peristyle Theater as part of the KeyBank Pops Series.
“From one trombone player to another, Aubrey Logan is a fantastic player,” says Alain Trudel, Music Director of the Toledo Symphony. “She is Berklee-trained and has such a rich, buttery sound when she plays. She really sings through her instrument.”
Seattle native and daughter of music teachers, Aubrey Logan rose to the national spotlight on American Idol in 2009. After being rejected by Simon Cowell for being “too jazzy,” she pursued jazz wholeheartedly, winning a vocal competition at Switzerland’s Montreux Jazz Festival and signing a recording contract that same year. Since then, she has collaborated with Josh Groban, Quincy Jones, Burt Bacharach, Smokey Robinson, Seth McFarlane, Meghan Trainor, and Pharrell Williams.
“Aubrey’s voice is one of the nimblest I’ve ever come across,” continues Trudel. “You need to have that agility when you’re singing jazz, but Aubrey takes it to another level. She has complete confidence and control of her vocal range, and she has incredible tone. She is captivating and convinces you of what she’s trying to do when she takes a pop song from today and performs it in a new way. You just have to see it to believe it.”
Boasting a four-octave vocal range, Aubrey Logan has performed in Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox, a rotating musical collective that is known for reworking popular modern music into different vintage genres, especially swing and jazz. She amassed millions of YouTube hits thanks to her 2015 vintage jazz-styled cover of Taylor Swift’s Bad Blood and another in which she scats through Vanilla Ice’s Ice Ice Baby. She has covered numerous pop songs, including (You Make Me Feel Like A) Natural Woman by Aretha Franklin, You Can’t Touch This by MC Hammer, Bennie and The Jets by Elton John, Always Be My Baby by Mariah Carey, Here by Peggy Lee, and Uptown Funk by Bruno Mars.
A songwriter, Aubrey Logan released original music on her debut album, Impossible, in September of 2017, which shot to the top 10 on the iTunes, Billboard, and Amazon album charts. Her appearance on Summer Horns II, From A to Z, as a special guest of Dave Koz and Concord Records, became the No. 1-selling contemporary jazz album. In March of 2019, Aubrey Logan released her sophomore album titled Where the Sunshine is Expensive, which hit #1 on the Billboard Contemporary Jazz charts in April of the same year.
