BGSU professors to discuss war in Ukraine

As a public service to BGSU and the community, a panel of expert BGSU professors will discuss the situation in Ukraine and take questions in a Zoom presentation Monday Feb. 28,  8-9 p.m.

“Understanding the War in Ukraine” is sponsored by the International Relations Organization, the Departments of Political Science, World Languages and Cultures; Programs in International Studies, European Studies, Peace and Conflict Studies; and the College of Arts and Sciences.

Panelists will be:

  • Neal Jesse is professor of Political Science and author of the recent book, “Learning from Russia’s Recent Wars: Why, Where, and When Russia Might Strike Next” (Cambria press, 2020)
  • Stefan Fritsch is associate professor of Political Science and whose research focuses on political economy, technology, and the politics of Europe.  In 2020-21, he served as a Jean Monnet Fellow at the Robert Schuman Center for Advanced Studies, European University Institute, Florence, Italy.
  • Edgar Landgraf is professor of German and director of BGSU’s MA in European Studies program. His research focuses on German culture and philosophy. Last spring, he taught the seminar “Fascism in Europe: Then and Now.”
  • Timothy Pogacar is associate professor of Russian and expert on the language, culture, and history of Russia and Slovenia.
  • Marc Simon, Chair of the Political Science department, will moderate the discussion.  His research and teaching focus on war and political violence, conflict resolution, and nonviolence.
