BGSU starts semester with more than 100 new COVID cases reported in two days

Reflecting the spiking number of COVID-19 cases in the wake of the  emergence of the omicron variant, cases at BGSU have reached territory not seen since early last winter.

 In the first two days of the semester, 131 new cases were reported. Of those 40 were confirmed, and 90 were suspected. (These are self-administered tests that have not been confirmed.)

Of those cases, 116 were among students, three faculty, and 12 staff.

Over winter break, 286 new cases were reported, mostly from off-campus. Of those 236 were students, eight were faculty, and 42 staff.

As of the beginning of the semester, 78.1 percent of students are vaccinated, 14.9 percent have been granted exemptions, and 6.9 percent are not in compliance.

Of those students living on residence halls, 85.5 percent are vaccinated, 13.6 percent have exemptions, and .9 are not in compliance.

Among faculty and staff, 90.6 percent are vaccinated, 6.3 percent have been granted exemptions, and 3.1 percent are not in compliance.
