Dr. Bill Balzer, the Vice President for Faculty Affairs and Strategic Initiatives at Bowling Green State University, will serve as the interim resident at Owens Community College.
In a notice to the BGSU community, President Rodney Rogers said that Balzer, who came to 1983 as an assistant professor of psychology, will take a one year unpaid leave of absence.
During his leave of absence, Sara Bushong, dean of University Libraries, will serve as interim vice provost for faculty affairs.
During his time at BGSU, Balzer has served as chair of the Department of Psychology, dean of BGSU Firelands and dean of Continuing and Extended Education. He’s also been involved with the business community.
Balzer has been credited with his role as part of the administration negotiation team with the successful contract negotiations with Faculty Association.
Rogers stated in his message: “Dr. Balzer’s leadership comes at a critical time for community colleges, and he will focus on building out enrollment and academic partnerships and programs. BGSU is a comprehensive public, four-year university, and we remain committed to complementing the educational approach of institutions such as Owens Community College.”
