Deux Saisons, the classical guitar duo of soprano Keri Lee Pierson and guitarist Christopher Schoelen, has released a holiday album, “Winter’s Light.”
The digital album is available for streaming on Apple music, Amazon, and Spotify and can be purchase at Schoelen’s website.
It features holiday music that will both be familiar as well as selections that will be new to many listeners.
The setlist includes a trio of Spanish songs – El Noi dela Mare, La Nit de la Nadal, and A La Nanita Nana – reflecting the guitarist’s study in Spain. He performs the first two solo. He also solos on “Villancico de Navidad” by Paraguayan composer Agustín Barrios Mangoré. Pierson performs “O Holy Night” unaccompanied.
There are traditional songs in Italian, French and German as well as the well-known carols “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen,” “Silent Night,” “The Holly and the Ivy,” and “The First Nowell.”
According to Pierson, the married couple took on the project because: “Our parents suggested and encouraged it, and we love the season and thought it would be a fun project to do. Which it was!”
Schoelen arranged all the music for the duo.
Pierson is enrolled in the Doctorate of Contemporary Music at BGSU. Schoelen has his own guitar studio offering in person and online lessons.
