First Solar, which has operations in Wood County, has been chosen to provide the solar panels for a more than $70 million project in Fulton County.

The 134-acre solar field is being developed by BP in partnership with META, which will purchase the power generated.

Construction on the solar field has started, BP announced today (Jan. 10).

The Arche Solar project  is expected to create around 200 US jobs across the supply chain during construction, BP reports. The company says it will provide more than $30 million in revenue to benefit local schools and other public services over the life of the project.

Once completed, Arche will generate enough energy annually to power the equivalent of more than 20,000 US homes.

The solar field is part of bp – formerly British Petroleum – to diversify its business.

The company has a refinery just outside Toledo in Oregon.
