Erin Konecki, Emergency Management Agency deputy director for Wood County, has issued the following advisory:
Overview
This weekend our area will likely have a significant rain event. Rain will be moving in from the southwest through our area, building in intensity as it heads our way. We are expecting the rain to begin early afternoon Saturday, becoming heavier around 4-5 p.m. and continuing through Sunday morning. Wind gusts up to 35 mph can be expected Saturday night and early Sunday morning.
Significance
Rain fall is currently projected between 1-2 inches for Wood County which is slightly more than we have had the entire month of October. Some flooding can be anticipated with this system.
Additionally, due to a somewhat warm fall season, many of the leaves have not begun to fall off of the trees. With the high winds Saturday night and Sunday morning, we can expect a significant amount of leaves to fall. This can cause slippery roadways and has the potential to block storm drains, which can lead to additional flooding.
Suggestions
· Secure all loose items outside
· Check drains to ensure they are clear of debris
· Monitor local weather conditions
The EMA will be monitoring local conditions. As always, please report any storm related damage.
