July Firefly Nights ready to rock downtown

Firefly Nights returns July 21 to downtown Bowling Green. This is the second and last of the summer festivals for this season.

The festival features kids activities of all sorts, music and dance performances, 32 vendors of all types, and a variety of attractions.

The theme of crafts on the north end will be superheroes with face painting on both ends of the festival, which stretches from Washington Street on the south to Court Street to the north.

Youngsters get to beat on drums provided by the Falcon Marching Band.

The BGSU Falcon Marching Band will host a musical petting zoo, and the BGSU herpetology lab will have reptiles to get acquainted with.

The Beat Dance Company and the Black Swamp Fie Arts School will dance in front of the Clazel Theatre.

Bands booked to perform in the parking lot at 165 S, Main St. with the Black Swamp mural  are Milk On The Rocks at 5:45 p.m.; Elson Brown at 7 p.m.; and Three Two Many  at 8:30 p.m.

Among attractions will be Snook’s Dream Cars, strolling magician Andrew Martin, Freddie and Frieda Falcon, and  Laurel’s Princess Parties.

Snook’s Dream Cars will have vintage rides on display.

The food trucks for our July 21 festival are: Big Daddy’s Sausages & More; Detroit Mini Donut -Toledo; Fatboyz By Al & Zoe; The Forking Pierogi; Jonny Burritos; Kabob It Bowling Green; The Leaf and Seed; Rosie’s The Rolling Chef; Smyles Icy Treats; Susie Lynne’s Lemonade, and Trip’n Biscuits. 

These downtown shops stay open late during the festival: Ben’s; Black Swamp Games; Broad Wing Tattoos and Body Piercings; The Busy Thimble; Coyote Beads & Jewelry; Eden Fashion Boutique; For Keeps; Grounds For Thought; Joyful Creations Studio and Boutique; Main Street Ace Hardware; Mode Elle Boutique; Murder Ink Tattoo Co.; Rock Em Sock Em Retro; and The Sanctuary Art Studio.

Adult attendees can take advantage of the city’s DORA ( designated outdoor drinking area). The participating business are: 149 BG; Beckett’s Burger Bar; City Tap and The Attic; The Clay Pot Bistro; Doc’s Big City Saloon / Cameo Pizza; Juniper Brewing Company; Mister Spots; Myla Marcus Winery; SamB’s; and Trotters Tavern.

The festival relies on volunteers.
