Michael Manahan, loving son, husband, father, brother and friend of Bowling Green passed away at the age of 62 after a courageous fight against cancer on Saturday, June 9, 2018.
Michael was born on March 15, 1956 to Larry and Evelyn (Mayer) Manahan in Defiance, Ohio. He married the love of his life, Beth (Keenan) Manahan on September 29, 1979 at the First Christian Church in Bowling Green. Beth survives in Bowling Green.
Along with his wife, Michael is survived by his mother; Evelyn Manahan of Defiance; children: Colleen Manahan; Joel (Bree) Manahan; Ian Manahan and Dana Manahan all of San Diego; sisters: Susan (Louis) Sorbera of Tampa; Tam (Jack) Moss of Defiance; and brother-in-law: Mike Palumbo of Columbus.
Michael was preceded in death by his father: Larry Manahan; and sister; Barb Palumbo.
Michael was a graduate of Defiance High School and went on to earn his Bachelors Degree in Environmental Science and Masters Degree in Public Administration from Bowling Green State University. After graduating from BGSU, Michael worked for the EPA for 17 years. He then moved to the private sector, last working for Nova Vision as an Operations Manager. Michael volunteered his time and talents over many years serving on various boards and in many organizations including Wood Lane Industries, past President Breakfast Kiwanis Club, past President of BG Bombers Soccer Club, former Deacon BG Covenant Church, and finally past President of the board at the Bowling Green Pregnancy Center. Michael and his wife were RCIA coordinators for a number of years at St. Thomas More. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.
When Michael was in college, he worked for a summer at Yellow Stone National Park. He loved the outdoors and this was an experience he never forgot. Michael enjoyed home projects and woodworking. He also enjoyed boating on the Maumee River and on Rose Lake in Michigan. He coached many to waterski, and no one was better than him at slalom. He will be dearly missed.
Visitation for Michael will be held on Wednesday, June 13, 2018 from 3:00PM –7:00PM with a Vigil Service at 7:00PM in the DECK-HANNEMAN FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 1460 W. Wooster Street/ P.O. Box 648, Bowling Green, Ohio 43402. Tele: 419-352-2171. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday June 14, 2018 at 10:00AM at St. Thomas More, 425 Thurstin St. Bowing Green. Interment will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Bowling Green, Ohio.
