NAMI Wood County programs kick-off 2024

From NAMI WOOD COUNTY

National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Wood County will host multiple programs to start the new year.

The first book of the year for the Nite Out with NAMI Book Club will feature Brene Brown’s “I Thought It Was Just Me (But It Isn’t).” The book discusses the importance of imperfections–both to relationships and senses of self. The meetings will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesdays, Jan. 9, Jan. 24 and Feb. 6, and are available online and in person at the NAMI Wood County office, 1250 Ridgewood Dr., Bowling Green. Participants can register for the book club and other Nite Out with NAMI events here.

On Jan. 19 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., NAMI Wood County will offer Mental Health First Aid. The program teaches a five-step action plan to offer initial help to people with signs and symptoms of a mental illness or who are in crisis. The plan connects them with appropriate professional, peer, social or self-help care. The course is available to anyone, including first responders, students, teachers, leaders of faith communities, human resource professionals and caring citizens. To take the course, save a life and strengthen your community, visit NAMI Wood County website to register.

NAMI’s Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) Workshop will be held Feb. 27-March 1 at the Wood County office. The course is free of charge and self-designed to help individuals identify their personal wellness tools. The workshop will focus on tools to achieve financial wellness. Visit https://namiwoodcounty.org/wrap/ to register.

The Family and Caregiver Support Group meetings are held on the first and third Tuesday of the month from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at the Wood County office. The group is for people who have an adult child, adolescent, sibling, parent or loved one who lives with a mental health condition. The focus of the group is to provide evidence-based family and caregiver programming through peer-led facilitators.

Community members who are interested in volunteering at NAMI Wood County are invited to get involved as a support group or class facilitator, office volunteer and more. On the second Tuesday of each month, the organization will host Chip-In Days from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Volunteers will be able to assist office staff in various projects such as folding brochures, helping with mailings, office organizing and more.
