The public sculpture Our Ties That Bind has been installed in Wooster Green.

Crews from K & K Construction were out early this morning (7/16/2020) putting the work into place.

Created by Deedee Morrison, an artist based in South Carolina, the piece features eight bent railroad rails rising with words representing the spirit of the community cut into the top. The themes are: Those themes are: Great Black Swamp, Arts and Music, the Boom Town Era, Family Farming, Industry, Education, Wooster Green, and Faith. These will be illuminated.

The design was selected by the Wooster Green Steering Committee. The process drew more than 20 proposals, of which the public art subcommittee, selected three finalists to make presentations.

Morrison’s design was the strong favorite both among subcommittee members and in the public balloting.

The project costs $45,000 and was paid for with private donations.

Morrison has worked as a professional studio and public artist for more than 15 years and has worked with libraries, schools, parks, cities, and municipalities all over the country.

The Wooster Green Steering Committee said it will be scheduling an official Inauguration of the Wooster Green gathering place when it is safe to do so.
