Production studio in Kuhlin Center to be named for Dave Horger

At its meeting on Thursday the BGSU Board of Trustees approved naming the production studio in the Michael and Sara Kuhlin Center, for long-time local broadcaster Dave Horger. The naming is in recognition of the donations given by Horger and his wife, Cathy, to BGSU Athletics, and a recent gift to name the studio.

They have supported the Falcon Club Scholarship and Success Fund, the Women’s Basketball Enhancement Fund, and the Men’s Basketball Enhancement Fund. They are recognized as members of The Presidents Club, Leadership Circle and Carillon donor recognition societies.

Dave Horger, the well-known “Voice of the Falcons” from 1990-2003 and co-founder of “The Morning Show” is originally from Calcutta, Ohio and came to Bowling Green in 1979. He worked for WFOB-AM for 28 years before investing countless hours in his home community through his morning broadcasts, community service and volunteerism. He retired from “The Morning Show” and BGSU Radio when he was diagnosed with cancer in 2013 and had to retire. He is now in remission.

Cathy Horger earned a bachelor’s degree in selling and sales management in 1974 from Bowling Green State University. She is a welcome center representative at Wood County Hospital.

Matthew Eldred and Robert Lewis Legends Wall

As renovations continue to enhance the overall fan experience in Slater Family Ice Arena, trustees also approved the naming of the Matthew Eldred and Robert Lewis Legends Wall, honoring a joint gift from the longtime friends and BGSU alumni.

As a four-year member of the BGSU Hockey team, Eldred earned a bachelor’s degree in liberal studies from the University in 1997 and went on to play professional hockey for nearly six years. He has supported BGSU through gifts to the Bridge to BG Scholarship Fund, the Ice Hockey Enhancement Fund, the Varsity BG Club and The Excellence Fund. Eldred is also recognized as a member of The Presidents Club and Leadership Circle donor recognition societies.

Eldred is the structural heart watchman territory manager for Boston Scientific.

Lewis earned a bachelor’s degree in sports management from BGSU in 1994 was a member of the Theta Chi fraternity, the Honors Program and worked at the BG News. He has supported BGSU through gifts to the Honors College Scholarship Fund, the Student Emergency Fund, the Division of Student Affairs Fund and the S.M.A.R.T. Network Fund, and is a recognized member of The Presidents Club, Leadership Circle and Carillon donor recognition societies.

Currently, Lewis serves as a financial advisor and limited partner for Edward Jones Investments.

James Craig Koehler Founders Suite

Also in Slater Family Ice Arena, the board voted to name multiple suites and a bar in honor of the generosity of BGSU alumni.

The James Craig Koehler Founders Suite was established to recognize James C. Koehler ’45 who has supported BGSU through gifts to The Excellence Fund and Alumni Fund. He is also a member of The Presidents Club and Leadership Circle donor recognition societies.

As current owner of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Koehler Realty in Findlay, Ohio, and a licensed real estate broker, Koehler earned a bachelor’s from BGSU in 1945 and was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. He also served in the U.S. Air Force.

Slater Family Founders Suite

Lifelong supporters of BGSU hockey Scott A. Slater ’73 and his family were also honored with the naming of the Slater Family Founders Suite.

As current chairman and CEO of Toledo Engineering Co. Inc., Slater earned a bachelor’s degree from BGSU in 1973 and was a member of Beta Gamma Sigma business administration honorary and Beta Alpha Psi accounting honorary.

Slater established the Slater Family Varsity Hockey Scholarship and has supported the Football Enhancement Fund, Ice Hockey Enhancement Fund, Women’s Basketball Enhancement Fund, the Falcon Club Scholarship and Success Fund and the Baseball Enhancement Fund. He is also a member of The Presidents Club, the Falcon Club, Leadership Circle, Carillon and 1910 donor recognition societies.

In 2016, Slater made a transformational gift for the renovation of Slater Family Ice Arena so that future generations of hockey players and figure skaters could skate in the historic and iconic facility.

Dr. Linda C. Ueltschy Bar

Recognized by the board for her continued support of BGSU, Dr. Linda C. Ueltschy ’69, ’71, ’82 was honored with the naming of the Dr. Linda C. Ueltschy Bar, located on the second floor of the Slater Family Ice Arena.

Ueltschy joined BGSU in 1998 as an associate professor of management, specializing in international business and marketing. She was awarded the status of professor emeritus of international business upon retirement from BGSU.

A longtime BGSU supporter, Ueltschy has given to the Ice Hockey Enhancement Fund, the Allen W. and Carol M. Schmidthorst College of Business Travel Fund, the Hockey Endowment Scholarship Fund, the Supply Chain Management Institute, the Parents Fund at BGSU, the Management Department, Sebo Athletic Center, the International Advisory Board, and the Falcon Club and Success Fund. She is also recognized as a member of The Presidents Club, Leadership Circle and Carillon donor recognition societies.

Ueltschy holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Spanish and an MBA from BGSU. She earned her doctorate at Kent State University.

New trustees

The board also welcomed three new trustees t following appointments by Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine and trustee votes.

Paula M. O’Reilly ’93, is an experienced consultant and strategist, Trustee Paula M. O’Reilly ’93 joins the BGSU Board of Trustees for a nine-year term through May 2033.

Currently, O’Reilly serves as senior managing director and Midwest technology lead for Accenture, a global professional services company with leading capabilities in information technology and consulting. She was recently appointed to lead the company’s Columbus office.

Throughout her career, O’Reilly has held several leadership roles with Accenture, focusing on managing capital markets, banking, insurance and risk and operations. In 2005, she was named partner, and her expanded portfolio now focuses on technology, digital, cloud and security.

Additionally, O’Reilly is active in the greater Columbus community, serving as a member of the Ohio Business Roundtable and the Ohio Chamber of Commerce. She was also included in Columbus CEO Magazine’s Future 50 Class of 2022.

Paul J. Hooker ’75, was selected by the board as national trustee, in recognition of his professional accomplishments, national reach and contributions to the learning community, Paul J. Hooker.

After graduating from BGSU in 1975 with a bachelor’s in business administration, Hooker spent most of his professional career with SFERRA Fine Linens – a luxury bedding, bath and home decor store based in Edison, New Jersey – and eventually retired as CEO.

Previously, he served as a member of the BGSU Foundation Board and was a member of the Changing Lives for the World Campaign steering committee. Hooker also has supported the Alumni Laureate Scholars and the Robert W. and Patricia A. Maurer Center Building Fund.

Hooker is the namesake for the Paul J. Hooker Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership in the Allen W. and Carol M. Schmidthorst College of Business, which is one of only 20 centers worldwide recognized by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. The center serves as northwest Ohio’s premier resource for entrepreneurial education, featuring a weeklong Entrepreneurship Week each April that brings entrepreneurial leaders from around the country to campus.

Hooker’s term as national trustee ends in May 2027.

BGSU doctoral student and alumna Kathryn Ware ’22 is serving as a non-voting member as graduate student trustee through May 2026.

Currently in her third year of graduate school, Ware is pursuing a doctorate in biological sciences. Her research focuses on how birds respond to various forms of disturbance, including forest management and hurricanes.

At BGSU, Ware has served as the Graduate Student Senate environmental affairs representative for two years. She also serves in various other capacities, including as a teaching assistant in anatomy and physiology, an officer of the Biology Graduate Student Association, member of the Biology Departmental Seminar Committee and founding member of the Biology Research Forum Committee.
