Salzedo Harp Duo to perform St. Tim’s Discovers concert

The Salzedo Harp Duo, comprised of Toledo’s own Nancy Lendrim and Jody Guinn, of Cleveland, will perform a St. Tim’s Discovers concert Sunday, Feb. 19 at 3 p.m., in the sanctuary of St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church, 871 E. Boundary St., Perrysburg. 

The duo will perform favorites from the classical repertoire, Broadway and folk melodies, spanning several centuries of harp music. Selections will include Bach Preludes, waltzes by Strauss, “Clair de Lune” by Debussy and two Gershwin songs, “The Man I Love” and “Embracable You”.

Both of these world-class musicians share a similar background, having studied with the late Alice Chalifoux at the Cleveland Institute of Music. 

Formed in 2000, the Salzedo Duo was awarded a prestigious Mellon Foundation grant to research, perform and advocate for duo harp music. Having performed internationally at the World Harp Congress in Geneva, Switzerland, the duo also has recorded on the Azica label, releasing three discs.

Their rendition of “Clair de lune” was featured in the score of the popular daytime drama “The Young and the Restless, where it was heard by more than six million viewers.

Ms. Lendrim is well known to Toledo audiences, where she holds the Lois Nitschke Chair as principal harpist of the Toledo Symphony. In addition, Ms. Lendrim is on the faculty of the Toledo School for the Arts and maintains a private studio. During the summer, she hosts a harp camp here in northwest Ohio.

Jody Guinn has held several orchestral appointments, including second harp for the Cleveland Orchestra, the Cleveland Ballet, and the Ohio Chamber Orchestra. She recently retired after 38 years as the Principal Harpist for the Akron Symphony,

Currently, Ms. Guinn serves on the faculties of Baldwin Wallace and Case Western

Universities and the Cleveland Institute of Music.

The artists will have recordings available for purchase at the concert.

The concert is open to the public, with no admission charged; however, donations are always welcome. 

The church has ample parking and is accessible for those with physical challenges.
