Many American communities during World War II were devastated by casualties, one in particular was Hardin County, Ohio. Nine of Hardin County’s greatest perished while fighting in the Battle of Munda Point to take control of a Japanese airstrip in the Solomon Islands.

In “A Soldier’s Story: Never Forgotten,” family members of the fallen and experts of the Battle of Munda Point explore the tragedy and address the devastating effects it had on the Hardin County community.

“A Soldier’s Story: Never Forgotten,” will premiere Tuesday, July 30 at 7 p.m. at the Kenton Armory. The event is free and open to the public.

WGTE collaborated with Al Horn of Bryan, Ohio who spearheaded this campaign to have the members of the Battle of Munda Point recognized. Horn’s brother-in-law Jack Castor, was among Hardin County residents killed in battle.

Horn contacted WGTE with his information and stories of the Battle of Munda Point and together crafted the documentary. “ A Soldier’s Story: Never Forgotten,” will air on WGTE for the first time, Thursday, Aug. 1, at 8:30 p.m.

Viewers outside of the WGTE viewing area will be able to stream the show online at wgte.org/soldier, on the WGTE app and DVD copies will be available through the station.
