The 19th annual Winter Wheat festival provides a fall weekend of writing workshops, a book fair, and author readings. The event hosts hundreds of participants from BGSU, the greater Ohio regions, and beyond. The festival runs from Thursday, Oct. 31, through Saturday, Nov. 2 and is also taking place alongside the annual 21st Century Englishes Conference, in the Bowen-Thompson Student Union. There is no fee to attend the Winter Wheat event, and all are welcome to join.

This year features a Thursday night reading by esteemed BGSU faculty member Sharona Muir [Invisible Beasts (2014), The Book of Telling: Tracing the Secrets of My Father’s Lives (2005)], a Friday reading by BGSU aluma Liz Breazeale [Extinction Events (2019)], and a Saturday afternoon reading by visiting poet Oliver de la Paz [The Boy in the Labyrinth (2019), Post Subject: A Fable (2014)].

Additionally, Friday night, 6:30 – 8:00 p.m., will be dedicated to paying tribute to the late Wendell Mayo, Professor Emeritus of BGSU’s Creative Writing Program.

The weekend event will conclude with drinks, food, and an open mic at Howard’s bar in downtown Bowling Green, Saturday night from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.

Each Winter Wheat showcases different opportunities for writers, readers, publishers, students, and many other members of the literary and arts community. Descriptions for specific workshops as well as a full itinerary for the weekend can be found on the event’s website where registration is also free and open to the public.
