Wood County stats showing higher COVID hospitalizations, deaths among unvaccinated, unboosted

Wood County has reported 600 new COVID cases and six new deaths from COVID in the past week, plus 48 new hospitalizations in the last two-week period, according to the Wood County Health Department.

The county is seeing an average of 459 cases per 100,000 residents, averaging 86 cases per day. The test positivity rate is currently 22%.

Of the 48 new hospitalizations, the age range has been 4 to 96 years, with the average age of 68.

The hospitalizations included 30 people who were unvaccinated or whose vaccination series was incomplete, 12 people with completed vaccine series but no boosters, and six people who had received boosters.

Of the six new deaths reported, the age range was 71 to 90 years, with the average age of 78.

The deaths included five people who had not completed a vaccine series, and one who had completed the series but had not received a booster.

Also noted in the health department’s update is that ages 19 and younger represented a higher percentage of overall cases over the past month than they have during the pandemic overall, with an even greater difference over the past two weeks. For people 60 and older, cases over the past month have been lower than for the pandemic overall.
