I have been outspoken on the passage of recent levy attempts for BG City Schools. I still believe the original plan was the best plan long term for the district. However, voters stated they didn’t believe that same way. And that is ok as we moved forward as a community with specific task forces with a lot of people from all sides joining in.
This new plan and levy concentrates on the badly needed improvement for primary school facilities. This came from community involvement and connection with much debate and positive discussion. It was then determined that a consolidated elementary with improved resource efficiencies, teacher-student ratios, and much needed improved security was the best option and the Board moved to put that on the ballot.
In that time, PTO organization from each of the elementary schools, middle school, and high school have endorsed this levy. PTOs, “Parent-Teacher Organization,” include parents and teachers of students in their respective schools. Therefore, that should really speak volumes. That each of these parent and teacher groups support this new school. They all debated the issue and voiced strong support for this levy. Again, all school PTO’s endorsed this plan and levy.
Moreover, the largest business organization in Bowling Green, the Chamber of Commerce, has also voted to support this levy and plan. This organization represents over 400 business and nonprofit members, which include the largest employers to the smallest family business members downtown. That too should speak very loudly to the community.
It seems like hundreds of businesses, hundreds of parents and teachers, and many other community stakeholders are stating the obvious: we as a community need this levy and new school. With so much agreement of hundreds of business owners and major community members all speaking to the importance of this plan, I urge you to also vote yes on this levy and plan.
